Obituary for Esther M. Stevens

Esther M. Stevens, 88, of Sheridan, passed away on June 25, 2020, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Sheridan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Smith) Levandoski.

A lifetime area resident of Sheridan, Esther once was employed by the former Van Roalt Inc, Brooks Hospital, and was the housekeeper for the St. John Bosco Church.

Survivors include four daughters: Donna Stevens of Richmond, Va., Nancy Scott of Brocton, Brenda (John) Pazderski and Kathy Stevens-Hartloff of Fredonia; one son, Charles Stevens of North Carolina; also survived by 11 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews including Richard Levandoski of California and Mary Jane Sysol of North Carolina, who called her every week faithfully. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Lyman A. Stevens, whom she married on June 10, 1950, and died August 8, 1998; nine brothers: Joseph, Leo, John, Barney, Casimer, and Frank Levandoski and Ralph, Wesley, and Walter Gens; seven sisters: Dorothy Gizowski, Sophie Sysol, Frances Douglas, Florence Nowak, Mildred Hallett, Gertrude Levandoski, Irene Chubb, and infant sister, Martha Levandoski. Sons-inlaw: James Scott and Thomas Skinner; and also infant great-grandson, Marshall Hawk Wilson.

Relatives and friends may call Monday from 2-5 p.m., at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc.,56 East Doughty St., Dunkirk. Private burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery.

Proper hand washing, minimal contact, respiratory etiquette and staying home when sick is important in reducing the spread of the virus.
