Michael William Gorts, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 in the company of his wife, Mary Gugino-Gorts, his daughter, L Margarita Gorts Santos (Eliseo Santos), and his son, Louis Michael Gorts (Chanel Richardson). Born in the town of Catskill, New York, Michael subsequently lived in Coxsackie, NY, Greenfield, MA and most recently in Las Vegas, NV.

Michael was the son of Toivo Gorts and Celeste Petruzzi of Coxsackie, New York. A proud graduate of Coxsackie-Athens Central High School in 1961, Michael's path led him to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. From 1961 to 1965, he demonstrated exceptional skills and earned numerous accolades, including Good Conduct Medals and a Rifle Marksmanship Badge. Michael's dedication and exemplary performance were further recognized when he was chosen to be part of a prestigious Marine Corps sharpshooter team.

After fulfilling his military duties, Michael went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. After years in the electrical engineering field, he relocated to Las Vegas, NV where he pursued a new career path and became a well known and a well respected real estate agent.

Michael's quick wit and sense of humor endeared him to all. His outgoing and warm nature put others at ease, and he had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel comfortable and valued.

The Gorts family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the VA for their unwavering support and compassionate care during Michael's battle with Parkinson's Disease. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort to Michael and his family in their time of need.

In remembrance of Michael's generous spirit, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in his honor. His legacy of love, service, and humor will continue to inspire those who were touched by his presence.

Michael's family, friends, and community celebrate his life with profound love and appreciation for the remarkable man he was. Though he has left this world, his memory will forever be cherished by those who loved him.

There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church; 1032 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, NY. Interment will be held in St. Anthony's Cemetery; Fredonia, NY.
