Royce J. Slaven, 75, of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Dunkirk, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday February 17, 2015 at home in Florida. Born July 14, 1939, in Corning, NY, son of the late Royce and Margaret (Tomlinson) Slaven and the late Eva (Smith) Slaven. A resident of Dunkirk for much of his life, Roy was well known by many as a limo driver for the late Paul Ziegler. He loved to bowl, and read, but most of all he loved to visit with friends and family. His grandchildren lovingly remember his regaling them with stories of his younger days followed up by recent visits to "Walmark", after doing his "worsh" before going home to watch "Diva" on NCIS. Preceded in death by his parents and wife and love of his life for 38 years, Estelle Slaven, who died August 9, 2006; and sister Loretta Slaven. Surviving are his children, Star (John) Toy of Silver Creek, Cindy (Michael) Kuzara of Dunkirk, Sandy (the late Ron) Davidson of Las Vegas, NV, Jim (Sandy) Korzeniewski of Fredonia, Richard (Melissa) Slaven of Cassadaga, Eva Lewis of Dibble, OK, and Anne McMillan of Wayne, OK; his companion, Beverly Kalfas of Zephyrhills, FL; a sister, Hazel (late Frank) Thomas of Bedford, VA; 25 grandchildren; 35 greatgrandchildren; along with nieces and nephews also survive. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Friday from 3-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in Blessed Mary Angela R. C. Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Private inurnment will be in St. Hedwig's Cemetery Columbarium at the convenience of the family.
