Roger J. Lombardo, 66, of Fredonia, passed away Saturday
evening, December 9, 2023 at the home of his sister surrounded by
family and friends following a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Dunkirk on December 31, 1956 to the late Joseph J.
and Cecilia (Deszcz)
Lombardo.
Growing up Roger attended St. Mary's School, graduated from
Dunkirk High School and while there,furthered his education by earning
a degree as an Auto Technician from BOCES. He would help his father
Hoppy and mother Cecilia at the Joe's Shoe Repair the Family Shoe Store
on 3rd street in Dunkirk.
Roger's passion for cars led him to pursue a career in the automotive
industry and worked at several local garages over the years starting with
Eckstrom's Auto Body, Ray's Collision, Dutch Bertges Bump Shop and
ultimately retiring from Larry Spacc GMC.
Additionally, Roger owned his own auto body shop, D&F Auto, and would
also tow cars and snowplow.
Known for his one-of-a-kind personality, Roger had a remarkable ability
to give out nicknames that would put a smile on everyone's face. His great
sense of humor was infectious and made him a joy to be around. Roger
had a heart of gold and was always there to lend a helping hand or offer
words of encouragement.
Roger enjoyed music and was a fan of the groups Volbeat and RUSH and
attended many RUSH concerts with his sister and family.
Though his professional achievements were notable, Roger found true joy
in his hobbies and interests. He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended
many races over the years. Roger also embraced the thrill of racing stock
cars with his son at local racetracks. These shared experiences created
precious memories that will forever be cherished.
Roger's love for family and friends knew no bounds. He cherished every
moment spent with them and especially enjoyed gathering around bonfires,
sharing laughter-filled evening. His presence brought warmth
and happiness to those fortunate enough to know him.
His memberships include: Dom Polski, NCC Con Club and the Columbus Club.
Left to honor Roger's memory are his loving son Dale James "DJ" Lombardo;
his dear sister Sandra Lombardo; Sandra's fiancé Thomas Gee; nieces Brittany
Lombardo and Amanda Lombardo, who were also his goddaughters; great-nephews
Dakarai Robinson and Kaymer Robinson; great-niece Violet Gee; and great-nephew
Ryder Gee.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Joseph J. and Cecilia (Deszcz)
Lombardo, grandparents, Joseph and Josephine Lombardo, and John and
Agness Deszcz.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc.,
56 E Doughty St, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, where funeral Funeral
Services will commence Friday morning at 9 AM and Mass of Christian Burial
at 10 AM in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Interment will be in St. Anthony's
Cemetery.
