Rita H. Szot, 95, of Dunkirk, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Dunkirk Rehab and Nursing. Born on June 12, 1928 in Dunkirk to the late Edmund and Belle (Bernard) Wlodarek.
Rita worked at S.S. Kresge for many years, becoming a familiar face in the community and earning the respect of all who knew her. Beyond her career, Rita's true joy came from spending time with her friends and family, creating countless memories that will be treasured forever.
She was lively, fiery, and outgoing, Rita's energy was infectious. Despite her age, she never failed to keep moving and enjoying life to the fullest. Her hobbies included being an avid bingo player and frequenting casinos, but most of all, she cherished the time spent having lunch with friends, laughing and sharing stories.
One of Rita's proudest accomplishments was being a great grandmother and having the privilege of walking down the aisle at her granddaughter's wedding. The joy she experienced on that special night was a testament to the love she shared with her family.
She was lively, fiery, and outgoing, Rita's energy was infectious. Despite her age, she never failed to keep moving and enjoying life to the fullest. Her hobbies included being an avid bingo player and frequenting casinos, but most of all, she cherished the time spent having lunch with friends, laughing and sharing stories.

Memberships include the Dunkirk Senior Center, Blessed Mary Angela Our Lady of Fatima Society and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include granddaughter Aleyna (Bo) Szot-Westling, former daughter-in-law Cynthia Webb and her great grandchildren Hunter and Hudson Westling. As well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Louis Szot, who passed away on June 27, 2016. Also preceding Rita is her son Ronald Szot and daughter Carol A. Szot-Batt; Brother Edward Wlodarek and infant brother Robert Wlodarek.
Friends & family are welcome to attend calling hours from 3-6 p.m. on Monday, March 18, at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at Blessed Mary Angela Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment in St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
