Richard C. Wystup passed away on Friday January 23, 2026 peacefully after a courageous and lengthy illness. He faced his journey with quiet strength, resilience, and grace, leaving behind a legacy of love, curiosity, and generosity. He was the son of the late Gerald and Dorothy Wystup.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he repaired jet engines—an early reflection of the mechanical skill and precision that defined his life. A lifelong learner, he later taught himself computer repair, driven by an endless curiosity and a remarkable ability to understand how things worked. There was little he couldn’t take apart and put back together exactly the same way, a talent admired by all who knew him.

Above all else, Richard cherished his children and granddaughter. His love for his family was unwavering, and he found his greatest joy in being present, supportive, and dependable. He was known for his willingness to help anyone in need, never hesitating to lend his time, skills, or a kind word.

He loved animals of all kinds and had a gentle spirit that extended to every living thing. He also enjoyed the outdoors, finding peace in hiking and bicycling and appreciating the beauty of nature.

Survivors include his siblings, Kevin (Cindy) Wystup and Kathy (Michael Trudnowski) Dillenburg; his children, Christopher (Lauren) Wystup, Jennifer Sheffield, and Julia (DJay) Manzel; his granddaughter, Kendal Hayden Parker; his cousins, Carl Lis, Craig (Rhonda) Lis, and Laura Lis; as well as many nieces and nephews. And last but not least, Barbara Sheffield, the love of his life and the Mother of his children.

He was recently reunited with his biological brother Timothy Cunningham.

Richard will be remembered for his kindness, ingenuity, and the love he shared so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We will be holding a celebration of life in his honor at a later date.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Richard M. Mackowiak Jr.; R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc., 56 East Doughty Street, Dunkirk, NY.
