Michael A. Barras, 66, of Dunkirk, passed away suddenly Sunday evening, January 11, 2026 at home. Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 6, 1959, he was the husband of Sandra (Sosinski) Barras and son of William and Joan (Marberger) Barras.


Michael graduated from Orchard Park High School and went on to serve honorably in the United State Army from 1986 to 1988. Ultimately, he dedicated 25 years as a steelworker for Al Tech Specialty Steel.


Known for his playful spirit and sense of humor, Michael often filled the room with laughter, especially during football season as he passionately rooted for the Buffalo Bills. Many who shared their time with him will fondly remember his enthusiastic shouts at the television during Bills games and his favorite saying, “He’s full of it!”

Described as a crusty exterior with a soft and sweet interior, embodying the qualities of a considerate and thoughtful individual.. He was a loving and protective husband and father, emphasizing the importance of family above all. As a brother, he was considerate and nurturing, always bringing light and laughter to those around him. Michael's thoughtful demeanor and caring spirit have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.


Michael is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Sosinski) Barras, loving children Michael Barras and Catherine Petersen ; parents William and Shirley Barras; siblings William Barras, Ben Barras, Susan Courey and Patrick Barras. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.


He is preceded in death by his mother Joan (Marberger) Barras.


Funeral services will be held in private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by R. Michael Mackowiak III; R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc., 56 East Doughty Street, Dunkirk, NY.
