Laroy Burgess

Laroy Carlton Burgess Sr., 82, passed away at the Absolut at Dunkirk, Sunday morning, January 10, 2016. He was born April 6, 1933, in Silver Creek, to his parents the late Ida (Knoll) and Roy Burgess of Silver Creek. Laroy went to Silver Creek High School, and No. 10 auto mechanic school in Dunkirk. He served in the US Naval Reserve #366 Dunkirk, for 7 years and obtained the rank of Boatswain's Mate. Laroy worked for many local companies over his lifetime, including Hall Brothers, Silver Creek Garage, Howard Green's Machine Shop, Beros Engineers, S. Howes, Ford Stamping Plant, Bailey's Machine Shop, Alco Locomotive Plant, B.R. Dewitt Trucking, Charlie DeAngel, and several local farmers. He also worked for True Temper in Dunkirk for 23 years, retiring from there in 1976. He later owned and operated a trap farm in Fredonia for 10 years. His memberships include a Life member of the Silver Creek Fire Department-Hook and Ladder Company, Western New York Volunteer Fireman's Association, serving as the financial secretary for 33 years, member of the Kosciuszko Club, Falcons Club, Moniuszko Club, and many other clubs and organizations. On August 11, 1956, he married Mary Ann Smith at St. John Bosco R.C. Church in Sheridan. They were married for 51 years. His wife predeceases him. Surviving are three children Laroy C. (Ginger) Burgess Jr. of Rochester, Susan (William) Styborski of Sheridan, Blaine (Rebecca) Burgess of Forestville, 5 grandchildren Keshia McCloskey of Fredonia, Elizabeth Burgess of Rochester, Jeremy Styborski of Manchester, CT., Courtney Styborski of Sheridan and Brockport, and McKenzie Burgess of Forestville, great grandson Jaxon McCloskey. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded by granddaughter Caitlin Nichole Styborski. Private interment services will be held at the convenience of the family and a Memorial mass in his memory will be held at a later date. The family respectfully requests no flowers and if desired memorials can be made to Domestic Violence Program, 83 South Main St., Jamestown, NY 14701, or Lake Shore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY 14048
