Joseph J. Skubis, Sr.

Joseph J. Skubis, Sr., 78, of Dunkirk, passed away suddenly August 20, 2025 at home. Born in Dunkirk on October 25, 1946, husband of Marie (Willis) Skubis and son of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Wilemski) Skubis.

A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Joe graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1964, and he furthered his education with an Associate's degree in Accounting from Erie Community College. His professional journey began at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, where he dedicated approximately 30 years of service until his retirement in 2002.

A man of great character, Joe served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. He was known for his respectful demeanor and was well liked by those who knew him. He could often be found around town, making his daily trip to Wal-Mart, and sharing moments with his wife, Marie. Joe had a passion for life, frequently sitting outside or in his garage, eagerly waiting for friends to stop by and share a "cold one".

Beyond his professional life, Joe had a variety of interests. He was a dedicated Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed following NASCAR, Indy racing, and drag car racing. His love for cars extended to his pride and joy, a Corvette, in which he delighted in taking rides. Joe also had a green thumb, spending time tending to his garden, and he also found joy in relocating squirrels.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Marie (Willis) Skubis, and his son Joseph J. Skubis, Jr.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 10-1 p.m. at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc.; 56 East Doughty Street, Dunkirk, NY. Prayer services will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will be held privately in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
