John (Jack) J. Schrantz, 88 of Dunkirk N.Y. passed away peacefully, August 23, 2025 at his home. Born in Dunkirk N.Y. December 31st 1936 to John J. and Victoria Schrantz. He was the youngest of nine children. Jack was a lifetime resident of Dunkirk who held many jobs in his lifetime being at Kraft Foods, Matco Tools, being one of the last full-time jobs. Jack served in the United States Marine Corp from 1955-1959.

A die-hard fan of over 70 years of the Boston Red Sox and N.Y. Giants. Fulfilling a bucket list dream and getting to Fenway Park / seats in the Green Monster in 2023. An avid sports guy coaching various youth teams earlier in life, and bringing home a Babe Ruth State Championship title in the early 80’s. He also enjoyed his golf, just recently participating in a tournament. A member of many local clubs, Fourth Ward Falcons, First Ward Falcons, Moniuszko Club, Kosciuszko Club and Exempts, which he frequented daily while enjoying the company of many friends and bartenders.

Jack survived by his children Rebecca Dyckes, Jason (Jennifer) Schrantz, Joel (Lisa) Schrantz, Daughter in law Karla Schrantz, Kevin (Suzzane) Voss, Wally (Brenda) Voss, Gary Voss and Kristin (Butch Kelley) Tofil, 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. Sisters Peggy (Wane) Gloss, Virginia Lennertz, and Mary Lou Smith, sister-in-law Linda Fryberger, Brother-in-law Paul Clark as well as many nieces, nephews and his beloved cat Trouble.

Jack is predeceased by his beloved wife Miriam Schrantz, son John Schrantz, brothers Richard Schrantz, James Schrantz, sisters Rita Mazurek, Marcella Siembieda, Geraldine Wildey, and also brother-in-laws Larry Fryberger & David Clark.

Jack will be missed by many families and friends. As football season is approaching, I’m sure our “POPS” is already getting his bets made in heaven.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling hours on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 4-7 pm at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc.; 56 East Doughty Street, Dunkirk, NY. Military Honors will be held at 6:30 p.m. by the Dunkirk Joint Veteran Council. Interment will be held in private.
