John A. Jakubowicz

John A. Jakubowicz, 72, of Dunkirk, passed away Sunday evening, March 20, 2022, at home.

Bron in Dunkirk, April 19, 1949, son of the late Alfred J. and Albertine G. (Omez) Jakubowicz.

John was an Honorable discharge U.S. Air Force veteran who was proud of his service in Vietnam. He served from 1966-72 as a crew chief of C-130 aircraft and reached the rank of sergeant.

His awards and medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the Over Sea Service Ribbon.

In his younger years, John’s father enticed him to play the accordion and his brother, Daniel to play the drums and had not decided what to have his brothers: Tom or Rick play.

A retired employee of the FORD stamping plant in Woodlawn, where he worked the Prog Press for over 33 years.

John had enjoyed water and snow skiing, boating and most of all time spent with his sons and grandsons.

He also enjoying socializing with family and friends.

His memberships include the Moniuszko Club, Dom-Polski Club and the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club.

Surviving is his wife of over 47 years, Carol A. (Meyers) Jakubowicz, whom he married Aug. 10, 1974; their son, John (Shannon) Jakubowicz of Dunkirk; grandsons: Connor and Gavin; brothers: Daniel (Shelley) Jakubowicz of Angola, and Rick (Shelley) Jakubowicz and sister in law

Jean Jakubowicz both of Fredonia, several nieces, nephews

great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Preceded in death in addition to his parents is a son Michael

Jakubowicz September 7, 2009, brother Thomas Jakubowicz

August 3, 2007.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
