Jeanne Elizabeth Smyczek, 89, of Dunkirk, died Sunday March 15, 2015, at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Dunkirk, daughter of the late James and Helen (Whalen) Hanlon. Jeanne was a retired employee of Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. Jeanne was loved by all, and will be missed by many. Jeanne loved to travel and spent much of her time reading. She also enjoyed spending time hopping, going out for lunch and telling stories with her caretaker and granddaughter, Stacy Szukala. Her memberships included St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R. C. Church, 50+ year member of the Kosciuszko Polish home, AARP and Dunkirk Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are her children Michael (Kathy) Smyczek of Dunkirk, Steven (Debbie) Smyczek of Florida, Peter Smyczek and Marylou Mease, both of Dunkirk; sisters Jackie Wolak of Utica, NY, Kay Hawker of Warsaw, NY. Surviving grandchildren are Dawn, Scott, Brenda, Denise, Tommy, Gerry, Michelle, Brian, Cheryl, Tina, Stacy, Kristi, Andy and Katie. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Terrance "Terry" Hanlon. No visitation will be observed and private burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery.
