Dorothy M. (Bigler) Roman, 100 of Dunkirk, died peacefully at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
Dorothy was born in Fredonia, N.Y., on April 25, 1921, the daughter of Leo V. and Alta (Tuttle) Bigler.
She was a homemaker who with her husband, Leo Roman whom she married on Dec. 3, 1946 raised three children and ran the family grape, turkey and chicken farm.
Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting, and reading.Her memberships include Charter Member of the East Town of Dunkirk Ladies Auxiliary, the former Sylvan Chapter 258 OES where she served as matron, district deputy grand matron and held the office of secretary for many years and Fredonia Chapter 430 where she held the position of secretary and the Dunkirk First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters: Betsy (Clifford) Murphy, Bonnie (Richard) Purol; daughter-in-law Annemarie (Michael) Roman; grandchildren: Linda (Daniel O’Hara) Hegner, Andy (Sue) Canalas, Jennifer (Lee) Hudson-Carter, Joshua (Velvet Lisa) Hudson, Jill Hudson, Matthew (Alexandria) Murphy, Brian (Kristen Anson) Purol, Julie (Michael) Sek; great-grandchildren: Ronald Hegner,Jr., Ryan Hudson, Sophia Shareno, Jacob Purol, Ella Purol, Michelle Sek, and Jared Sek; step great-grandchildren: Holly (Sean) Wielgsz, Randy Jasinski, Brian Jasinski; great-great-grandchildren: Jackson Hudson and Jamisen Hudson; step great-great-grand children: Andrew Wielgsz, JJ Jasinski, Eddie Jaskinski, Kaylee Jaskinski and Josh Jasinski. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Leo Roman who passed away June 20, 1993; son, Michael Roman; brother, Meredith Bigler; and sister, Marian Wise.
Following the guidelines and protocols administered by the Governor of New York, family and friend are invited to call Tuesday, from 4-7 p.m., at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc, 56 E. Doughty St., Dunkirk. The East Dunkirk Ladies Auxiliary will provide a service at 6:30 p.m. An Eastern Star service provided by Forestville Chapter 247 will be held at 6:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.
Family gratefully request that memorials be made to the East Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. building project or Chautauqua County Hospice.
