Daniel J. Newman passed away on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018 surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the owner and operator of the Newman Funeral Home, Inc. for over 50 years.
Lovingly remembered not by his education, his many memberships and accomplishments in life, but by the manner in which he lived his life and his treatment of God’s peoples. A gentle man with a strong distinctive voice he was loving, humble, generous, compassionate and all things good. He truly knew that life was not about possessions, but by the positive impact we have on those around us.
His loving wife of 47 years, Pauline (Rozen) Newman, children Lynne & David, and grand-sons Matthew and Eric Zasucha were his pride and joy and also his life. He was always there for them, putting them first and in his most difficult days they were by his side and were his very special caregivers. Even then he asked for so little and was concerned about them.
Dan was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan for many years enjoying games with his family and friends. He was known for the years of dedication as a midget league football coach, little league coach and involvement in Dunkirk High School sports. Most recently he supported the Dunkirk High School Football team as a former player and now spectator proudly watching his grandson play.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Frank and Emily (Bialaszewski) Newman, his in-laws Jozef & Stephania (Tofil) Rozen, grandson Nathan Zasucha and brothers-in-law Benjamin Henderson and Frank Rozen. He is survived by his brother Gerald (Barbara) and his sister Marlene (Don) Bentley, several Godchildren, nephews and nieces and by so many faithful friends and acquaintances. He will also be missed by his faithful “grand pup”, Jackpot who has remained at his side throughout his illness.
Calling hours will be held today from 3-7 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Home at 201 S. Zebra Street in Dunkirk. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Jan Trela at the Blessed Mary Angela Parish-St. Hyacinth’s site on Saturday, August 11th at 10 o’clock.
As per Dan’s wishes, the family gratefully declines flowers. Any memorials will be used for the charities of his choice. Arrangements by Richard M. Mackowiak of the recently formed partnership of Newman-Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc.
