Alvie W. Banach, 89, of Dunkirk, died, Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, 2014, at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk. She was born May 8, 1925, in Melbourne Australia, daughter of the late John and Winifred (Hook) Goldie. Alvie attended college in Australia. She was a retired employee of Ames Department Store in Dunkirk. An avid bingo player, Alvie enjoyed traveling, returning to her beloved Australia numerous times. Her memberships included Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hyacinth, the Parish Rosary Society and the Dunkirk Senior Citizens, where she was past President. Surviving are her sons, John E. Banach, David C. (Ann) Banach; 3 grandchildren, Christine Yammarino, Jacqueline (Michael) Cardamone, Kevin (Renae) Banach; great grandchildren Salvatore, Olivia, Ava, Sydney; a brother, George (Nell) Goldie in Australia; along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clement S. "Jimmy" "Banty" Banach who died October 3, 1996; and two sisters and a brother in Australia. Relatives and friends are welcome to call at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk on Friday from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alvie's memory can be made to St. Hyacinth's Cemetery, 324 Townsend Street, Dunkirk.
