Alton A. Subjack, 97, of Dunkirk, passed away Thursday morning, July 3, 2025 at the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in Greenhurst, NY. Born in Dunkirk on September 24, 1927, son of the late Edward J. and Anastasia (Koszyczarek) Subjack.
Alton, a U.S. Army veteran, initially worked as a mechanic at the Greyhound Bus Company for a few Years, and spent the majority (37 yrs.) of his career at the Dunkirk N.Y. Water Departments Supervisor of the Water Meter Dept. He really liked working for the people of Dunkirk, and especially enjoyed working with America's "Greatest Generation".
Alton is survived by long-time companion Jean Britt, nephews Gerald R. Subjack, James P. Subjack, Fred B. Centner, Robert W. Centner, and niece Mary (Subjack) Skubis.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Lilly (Jaquino) Subjack, brother Leonard Subjack, sister Mildred A (Subjack) Centner, brother-in-law Fred L. Centner, and sister-in-law Josephine (Lupone) Subjack. He was also predeceased by his mother Anastasia (Koszyczarek) Subjack, father Edward J. Subjack, grandmother Mary Koszyczarek, and aunt Mary (Koszyczrek) Slominski.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 9:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc. 56 East Doughty Street, Dunkirk, NY. Prayer services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
