Albert Colon Salgado, 64, of Dunkirk, passed away Tuesday afternoon Sept. 27, 2022, at Brooks Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He had fought a long battle with cancer.
Albert was born on Jan 4, 1958, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the son of the late Rafael R. Salgado and Carmen (Colon) Salgado.
A resident of Dunkirk since 1958, Mr. Salgado had been employed as sanitation department at Wells Enterprises Inc. He was a handy man working in odds and ends and took pride in many home reconstruction projects.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
He was known as a considerate, loving, and generous person. He loved his family and his two canines: Precious and Egyptian.
Albert is survived by his spouse, Aida Rivera of Dunkirk; stepdaughters: Jennifer Bak (Robert Wisniewski) of Dunkirk, and Paige Plaza (Julian Aponte) of Dunkirk: step-son, Joshua Plaza (Islandah Mitchell); seven grandchildren: Chloe Wisniewski, Mason Wisniewski, Aubrey Wisniewski, Valyncia Plaza, Joshua Plaza Jr., Zayn’nova Plaza Mercado and August John Plaza Aponte. He is further survived by his two brothers: Ariel (Cecilia) Salgado of Coatesville, Pa., and Ramon (Karen Swogar) Salgado of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters: Ada (Manuel) Maldonaldo of Jacksonville, Fla., and Maria (Juan) Cruz of Spring Hill, Fla. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Albert was preceded in death by two brothers: Rafael Salgado Jr., and Gricelios Salgado; a sister, Nancy Salgado; and a niece Christian Salgado.
Relatives and friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 Doughty St., Dunkirk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
