Marion Joseph Raczek

Marion Joseph Raczek, 84, of Darnestown, MD died at home on February 1 following a short illness.

Marion was born September 15, 1935 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of Florence B. (Lokietek) and Joseph F. Raczek of Dunkirk.

Marion graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Radio Mechanic for more than three years, attended the US Naval Academy, then attended the University of Maryland, College Park.

He worked as a Computer Specialist in capacity planning for many years at organizations including General Electric, Westinghouse, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Marion was a true lover of travel, both within the U.S., where he treasured visiting family members from East coast to West, as well as internationally. He visited India, several countries in South America; Africa; and Europe; but his most beloved trips were to Poland, where he was able to connect with newly-found distant cousins.

Surviving are his daughters, Stacey Raczek (Thomas Hoffmann) of Newton, MA and Teresa Raczek (Brian LaRaia) of Acworth, GA; grandchildren Grace and Samuel Raczek-Hoffmann; along with several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death in addition to his parents, are brothers Leo Raczek, Frank Raczek, sister Bernice Guziec, and brother-in-law Joseph Guziec.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call on Thursday from 4 to 6 PM at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E Doughty St, Dunkirk. A memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Mary Angela RC Parish Church of St. Hedwig on Friday, February 21 at 10 AM.
