Louis S. Szot, 90, of Dunkirk, died Monday morning, June 27, 2016 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. He was born July 6, 1925 in Dunkirk, son of the late Sebastian and Caroline (Sikora) Szot. A veteran of WWII, Louis served with the USArmy from 1943-45, he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Louis rejoined the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1948-52 and served in Germany andreceived another Good Conduct Medal. Louis retired from Roblin Steel and also enjoyed wood working at home.
His memberships include Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish Church of St. Hyacinth, Moniuszko Club, WWII Vets Club, over 70 year member of Murray Hose Company #4, Fire Police officer with Dunkirk Fire Department, and life member WNY Volunteer Firemans Association. Surviving is his wife of over 60 years, Rita H. (Wlodarek) Szot, whom he marred Sept. 13, 1952; their children: Carol Ann Batt of Amherst and Ronald (Janis) Szot of Dunkirk; granddaughter Aleyna Szot of Dunkirk, and brother Joseph A. (Genevieve) Szot of Texas, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.Preceded in death in addition to his parents is a sister, Bernice Budniewski. Relatives and friends are welcome to call today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk. Funeralservices will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will follow in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
