Jerome M. Guziec

Jerome M. "Harry" Guziec, 93, of Dunkirk, died Tuesday morning, March 8, 2016, at home unexpectedly.

He was born August 19, 1922, in Silver Creek, son of the late Michael and Maryann (Moranic) Guziec.

A veteran of WWII, Harry served in the U.S. Army as Private 1st Class in Algeria French Campaign, Morocco, Sicily, and Tunisia and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman 1st Award, Honorary Service Button and Bronze Star Medal.

A retired employee of Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Dunkirk and at one time an employee of the former ALCO Plant in Dunkirk.

Harry enjoyed time spent with family, his grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren.

He was an avid sportsman that loved to hunt and fish.

His memberships included Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hyacinth, Kosciuszko Polish Home, life member at the First Ward Falcon Club and WWII Vets Club.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years Dolores J. (Gawronski) Guziec, whom he married February 7, 1948; daughters Theresa (Harry) Sysol of Dunkirk, Maryann (Ted) Reading of North Carolina; grandchildren Joelle Kolassa of Fredonia, Brenda (Alan Collins) Halberg of Dunkirk, Laura Lisa of Forestville, Brian Halberg of Dunkirk, Wendy (Shane) Grant of North Carolina, Julie (Carlos) Troche of Fredonia, Thomas Fafinski II; great-grandchildren Nicole, Brody and Bryson Kolassa, Brittany and Nicholas Collins, Hunter Halberg, Halie Troche, Dylan Stuchell, Valerie and James Bryson Lee; two great-great-grandchildren, Eliana Gerena, Elon "EJ" DeJesus, brother of Michael (Marie) Guziec Sr., Joseph Guziec, David (Marlene) Guziec, Virginia Sobecki, Michaelena Kuziora, Evelyn Kuzdale, all of Dunkirk, and Marie Elliott of Georgia, along with many nieces and nephews also surviving.

Preceded in death in addition to his parents are Lorraine Guziec, Esther Guziec, Geraldine Wolmering, Frances Carrus, and infant brother Jon Guziec.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E. Doughty St. in Dunkirk. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hyacinth. Interment will be in St. Hyacinth's Cemetery.
