Eugene S. Pauszek

June 1, 1951 — April 1, 2022

Eugene S. Pauszek, 70, of Dunkirk, NY, died at home Friday morning, April 1, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 1, 1951, in Dunkirk to the late Raymond and Ann (Schelling) Pauszek.

A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Eugene attended St. Hyacinth School and Parish (now Blessed Mary Angela), graduated from Cardinal Mindzenty High School in 1969 and attended Jamestown Community College. It was at JCC where he further developed his writing skills and wrote a number of plays for the school theater group.

He worked in a variety of jobs including as a life-guard at the Wright Park pool, a baker at Mr. Donut, and a tow motor operator at Red Wing/Carriage House where he retired before the plant closed. He also has been employed by the Observer for decades and is famously known for his biweekly column “Sportsman’s Journal.”

Outside of work, he was a member of the Conservation Club and served as an officer for many years. It is here where he began the “Take-A-Kid” Fishing program sharing his enthusiasm for fishing and Lake Erie. He wanted younger generations to enjoy the outdoors and the challenge of catching the “big ones”! He also was a strong supporter of the Ducks Unlimited and Save the Wetlands organizations. Other memberships included: National Wild Turkey Federation, Chautauqua Sportsmen Federation, Senior Citizens Club, World War II Veterans Club, First Ward Falcons Club and Dom Polski Club. Eugene was an avid pinochle player at the local clubs and cherished his time spent following his granddaughter’s many athletic accomplishments.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary (Krzyzanowski) Pauszek whom he married on November 23, 1974; a daughter Rebecca (Richard) Glowniak of Dunkirk, son Steve (Lisa) Pauszek of Connecticut and beloved granddaughter Rachel Glowniak.

He is also survived by siblings Gail (Stewart) Foster of Cheektowaga, Maryanne (late Carl) Panfil,

Ray II (late Cheryl) Pauszek of Dunkirk, Julianne (David) Root of Deltona, Florida and John (Kathy) Pauszek of Delto-na, Florida. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Mary Angela Church of St. Hyacinth. Friends may begin to pay respects to the family at 9 a.m. in the entrance of the church.
