Edward J Urbanik

Edward J. Urbanik, 99, of Dunkirk, Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at home.

Born October 28, 1922, in Dunkirk, son of the late John and Anna (Kupiec) Urbanik.

Ed graduated from Dunkirk schools, Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Jamestown Community College and the University of Buffalo.

He completed radio tech training for the U.S .Army also at the University of Buffalo. He received numerous medals for U.S Army service operations as a radio operator forward observer during conflict in France and Germany.

Serving from 1942-46, Ed received the WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

After military service Mr Urbanik was in the first group of 10 employees starting up Great Lakes Color Printing. Eventually he became corporate engineer at Greater Buffalo Press supervising building their facilities in Texas, Iowa, Alabama, Pennsylvania, California and Canada.

He also operated a local electrical business, sat on the Dunkirk Electrical Licensing Board, was past commander of VFW Post 1017, attended the Rainbow Division Army Reunions and supported numerous military organizations.

Supported for over 50 years by his wife Evelyn, children and brothers and sisters.

Surviving is a son, John Urbanik of Fredonia; daughter, Bonnie (late Ernie) Dodson of New Jersey; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded by his withe, Evelyn (Ziemba) Urbanik who died April 22, 1996; sisters: Katherine Klocko, Sophi Loeb, Victoria Ryby, Adele Anzalone, Martha Lucas, brothers Joseph and Walter Urbanik.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call Sunday from 2-4 p.m., at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 E. Doughty St. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m., in Blessed Mary Angela Parish Church of St. Hedwig. Interment in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.

The family gratefully declines flowers.
