Edward "Butch" Mackoiwak

Edward “Butch” Mackowiak, 68, of Aberdeen, N.C., died unexpectedly on Friday, July 16, 2021.

He was born Feb. 17,1953, in Dunkirk, the son of the late Frank Mackowiak and Jane (Kubasik) Mackowiak.

He lived in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area until the recent move to North Carolina ,where he was living his dream of being on the golf course every day.Butch retired in 2008 from the City of Dunkirk as a senior wastewater treatment operator. He also served as past president of Local 912.Butch was a proud graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School class of 1971 and recently learned how to participate in a zoom meeting to plan the next reunion. He was a member of the Dunkirk Lakeside Club, Moniuszko Club, First Ward Falcon Club, Fourth Ward Falcons, Dunkirk Exempts, and the Elks Club where everyone knew him and his polka dancing skills. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the links with cherished friends.He was able to travel to many places with them for golf, including Scotland.He always tried to make people laugh with his funny stories or short poems he would make up on a whim. Also, a sports fanatic, he supported the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and any team his grandsons played on.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa (Hemenger) Mackowiak; daughter, Bethany (John) Fish of Severna Park, Md.; son. Mark (Suzanne) Mackowiak of Stafford, Va.; two grandsons: Jack and Ethan Fish of Severna Park, Md.; two brothers: David Mackowiak of Dunkirk and Lawrence (Theresa Fowler) Mackowiak of Largo, Fla.; an aunt, Sophia Kubasik; several nieces and nephews, and great-niece and nephew and cousins. Kandy Hemenger, Brandi (Bob) Tate, Teri (William) Brazill and Judy (Rod) Yonkers, Dennis (Diane) Vanderlee.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Elodie Mackowiak; sister-in-law Judy Mackowiak, brother-in-law, Robert Hemenger; and nephew, Eric Mackowiak.

Arrangements are by R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., where visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 15 from 2-5 p.m. A Mass will be held on Monday, Aug. 16, at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk at 10 a.m.
