Candis (Candy) J. Grabias died Thursday night, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer, at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk, N.Y. She was the wife of David Grabias, whom she married on Nov. 1, 2003; and daughter of the late Gerald and Ada Wallace of Laona, N.Y. She graduated from Fredonia High School as part of the class of 1967. Her employment was at M. Wile & Co. in Dunkirk, N.Y. until its closing. She also worked at the Fredonia High School cafeteria. She retired from Nestle Purina after 20 years of service. Candy was an avid reader of novels, especially by Steven King. She also enjoyed bowling and deer and turkey hunting. She played and coached Fredonia Girls Softball. Candy was a big-time Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed watching her N.Y. Yankees and Buffalo Sabres. She loved the theatre scene at Shea's in Buffalo and in Toronto, Canada. She liked to travel, especially to Las Vegas, and watching baseball in Toronto on weekends. Candy's memberships included the following: Dom Polski Club (life), Kosciusko Polish Home, Dun-kirk Moose Lodge #89, and Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club. She was also a former member of Pine Valley VFW, Ellington Rod and Gun, and Lakewood Rod and Gun. Candy is survived by her husband, David; a son, Lee Morgan III, of Cassadaga, N.Y.; a daughter, Amanda Rader, of Dunkirk, N.Y.; sisters Penny Haight, of Fredonia, N.Y.; Kitty Belle (Henry) Pencek, of Dunkirk, N.Y.; and Diane (Ray) Adams, of Brooksville, Fla.; brothers David (Paula) Wallace, of Toledo, Ohio; Bob (Lois) Wallace, of Rhinelander, Wis.; and Mike Wallace of Maitland, Fla.; granddaughter Brittney Morgan and grandson Joseph Rader, both of Dunkirk, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. Stepchildren Curan and Brandon Grabias also survive. Besides her parents, Candy was predeceased by a son, Bradley Morgan; and by a brother, Gerald (Butch) Wallace. There will be no visiting or calling hours. Arrangements are being made by R. Mackowiak Funeral Home of Dunkirk, N.Y. Donations may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute of Buffalo, N.Y., so that a cure may be found not only for brain cancer, which Candy fought so hard and for so long, but for all cancer.
