Bernadine Gilray

Bernadine Gilray of Sheridan passed away on February 7th of complications from Covid-19.

Born November 14, 1923 in Faith South Dakota to Frank and Thelma Thomas.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Carlton Gilray, Sister Shirley Bushen, daughter Karla Niedbalski, son-in-law Henry Niedbalski, son Jeffrey Gilray, daughter-in-law Nancy Gilray and grandson Timothy Jones.

A devout Christian, Bernie was a retired from Chautauqua County Social Services where her co-workers often called her “Mother Sunshine.” An animal lover, she never turned away a stray. She loved family gatherings, playing family card games, making crafts, and gardening.Her apple pies and molasses cookies were always devoured with pleasure by her family.Bernadine was a wonderful mentor to all who knew her. She had a heart of gold with a wealth of kindness, love and positive attitude.

Survivors include son Steven, Grandchildren Chris Gilray (Vicki), Jeffrey Gilray, Scott Gilray (Kelly), Jacob Gilray (Jenni), Andrea Rosage (Carl), Paul Gilray (Joann), Casandra Malowanczyk (Michael), Andrea Gilray, Shannon Karr (Eric) and Steven Jones. Also step-grandchildren Shaw Niedbalski and family and Sheila Tamboer and family. Surviving great grandchildren are Ashleigh and Kristen Gilray, Faith and Campbell Gilray, Ryan & Megan Gilray and Kamryn Karr.
